My Wearable Won't Connect
Set up auto-upload but workouts still aren't appearing? Work through this platform-specific checklist to fix the connection.
My Wearable Won’t Connect
The most important thing to understand: wearable connection is an open loop. When you grant permissions in Apple Health or Health Connect, there’s no immediate confirmation that data will flow — the only real proof is when a workout appears in NestEgg. That’s why the test workout method below is the fastest diagnostic.
The Fastest Diagnostic — 1-Minute Test Workout
Before anything else:
- Start a workout on your wearable (even just a 1-minute walk)
- End it and let it sync to your companion app
- Wait 3 minutes
- Open NestEgg → Workouts and pull down to refresh
Workout appears → Connection is working. Your original workout was probably a timing issue. Give it 10 minutes and pull to refresh.
Workout doesn’t appear → Connection is broken. Continue below for your platform.
iOS — Apple Health Checklist
Step 1 — Check NestEgg’s Apple Health permissions
- Open Apple Health
- Go to Sharing → Apps → NestEgg
- Confirm Heart Rate, Resting Heart Rate, and Workouts are all green (ON)
- If any are off, toggle them on
Step 2 — Check your wearable app’s Apple Health permissions
- In Apple Health → Sharing → Apps
- Find your wearable’s companion app (Garmin Connect, WHOOP, Zepp, Polar Flow, etc.)
- Confirm Workouts and Heart Rate are ON
Step 3 — Force a sync in your companion app
Open your wearable’s companion app and pull down to refresh. This forces any pending workouts to push to Apple Health.
Step 4 — Restart your iPhone
Background sync processes can stall silently. A restart clears them.
Step 5 — Reconnect NestEgg to Apple Health
In NestEgg → Settings → Wearable Settings:
- Disconnect from Apple Health
- Reconnect — tap through the Apple Health permission screen and turn on all toggles
Android — Health Connect Checklist
Step 1 — Check NestEgg’s Health Connect permissions
- Open Health Connect
- Go to App permissions → NestEgg Health
- Confirm Exercise and Heart Rate are ON
Step 2 — Check background access
Health Connect requires explicit background access for NestEgg to read data while the app isn’t open.
- In Health Connect → App permissions → NestEgg Health
- Look for Allow in background or similar — ensure it’s enabled
Step 3 — Check your wearable app’s Health Connect permissions
- In Health Connect → App permissions
- Find your wearable’s companion app
- Confirm Exercise and Heart Rate are ON
Step 4 — Force a sync in your companion app
Open your wearable’s companion app and sync manually (pull to refresh or use the sync button).
Step 5 — Restart your phone
Clears background sync queues.
Step 6 — Check Health Connect is installed and updated
Health Connect is built into Android 14+. On Android 13 or earlier, it must be installed from Google Play. Make sure it’s updated to the latest version.
Fitbit — iOS and Android
Fitbit doesn’t use Apple Health or Health Connect — it connects directly to NestEgg via OAuth.
If your Fitbit stopped syncing:
- Open NestEgg → Settings → Wearable Settings
- Disconnect Fitbit
- Reconnect — sign into your Fitbit account again and grant permissions
- Select Allow All when prompted
OAuth sessions can expire. Reconnecting takes 2 minutes and usually resolves it.
Device-Specific Notes
| Device | Known issue | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Garmin | HR data missing when Oura also on Apple Health | Remove Oura from Apple Health sharing — only one device at a time |
| WHOOP | Workouts show as “Other” type | Known limitation — scoring is unaffected |
| Apple Watch | Must use native Workout app — third-party apps may not write to Apple Health | Start workouts with the Workout app |
| Fitbit | OAuth session expires periodically | Reconnect via Settings → Wearable Settings |
