My Workout Type Is Wrong
Workout showing as the wrong activity type — or showing as 'Other'? Here's what causes it and how to fix it.
My Workout Type Is Wrong
Why This Happens
Different wearables use different names for the same activity. NestEgg maps these names to its own activity list during sync — but occasionally the mapping doesn’t match, and workouts arrive as “Other” or the wrong type.
The most common cases:
| Device | What arrives | Why |
|---|---|---|
| WHOOP (via Apple Health) | “Other” | Apple Health doesn’t forward WHOOP’s custom workout type names — known limitation |
| Garmin | Varies by activity | Garmin uses its own activity names that sometimes map to NestEgg’s “Other” |
| Any device | ”Other” | Activity type isn’t in NestEgg’s recognized list |
Does the Wrong Type Affect Your Score?
For cardio workouts: No. EP is calculated from duration × intensity regardless of the specific activity label. A “Running” workout and an “Other” workout with the same HR and duration score identically.
For strength workouts: Yes — it can matter. Strength workout types (weightlifting, Pilates, climbing, etc.) earn a +25% strength bonus and can unlock the SEA calculation. If your strength session arrives as “Other” or a cardio type, you may miss this bonus.
If you’re doing strength training via WHOOP and the type arrives as “Other,” you’ll want to correct it — see below.
How to Change the Workout Type
Before submitting (photo-upload)
On the review screen before you tap Submit, tap the Workout type field and select the correct activity from the list.
After uploading
- Go to Workouts → My Workouts
- Tap the workout you want to edit
- Tap Edit (or the pencil icon)
- Change the workout type
- Save
Note: Editing a workout type recalculates any bonuses that depend on the activity classification (e.g. the strength bonus). This may adjust your EP for that session.
WHOOP Users — What to Expect
WHOOP workouts synced via Apple Health will always arrive in NestEgg as “Other” — this is an Apple Health limitation that can’t be fixed from NestEgg’s side.
What to do:
- For cardio WHOOP sessions (running, cycling, etc.): the score is unaffected. You can leave it as “Other” or edit it to the correct type.
- For strength WHOOP sessions: edit the type to the correct strength activity after each upload, or use photo-upload instead of auto-upload to set the type at submission time.
Common Questions
Can I set a default workout type for WHOOP to avoid editing every time? Not currently — workout types are determined per-session from the sync data. This is a known friction point for WHOOP users.
The correct activity type isn’t in the list. What do I choose? Pick the closest match. If you’re doing something very niche (e.g. paddleboarding), “Other” is fine for scoring purposes — just be aware it won’t receive a strength bonus if applicable.
I edited the type but my score didn’t change. If the workout was cardio before and cardio after (just a different label), the score won’t change — EP doesn’t depend on the specific cardio type, only on duration and intensity. The score only changes if you move between cardio and strength classifications.
