Health Pause — How to Take One and What Happens
Life happens. A Health Pause lets you step back from scoring for a week without leaving the challenge or hurting your Nest. Here's how it works.
Health Pause
Illness. Injury. Travel. Family. Sometimes life gets in the way of exercise — and that’s completely fine. A Health Pause is how NestEgg handles it.
What a Health Pause Does
When you activate a Health Pause for a scoring period:
- Your workouts for that period are not scored
- Your Level Score is excluded from the Nest Score average for that period — so the rest of your Nest isn’t pulled down
- You stay in the challenge and your app access is unchanged
- You can resume at any time
- There is no penalty, no judgment, and no impact on your overall challenge history
A Health Pause is not a failure. It’s the system working as designed.
When to Use It
A Health Pause is appropriate when:
- You’re ill or injured and can’t exercise safely
- You have a family emergency or bereavement
- You’re travelling with no access to exercise or your wearable
- Life circumstances mean you genuinely cannot participate this week
It is not designed for a week where you’re just busy or motivation is low. Those weeks still count — even a modest effort at 50% is better than a Health Pause. The Pause is for genuine disruption.
How to Request a Health Pause
- Open the NestEgg app
- Go to Settings or your Profile
- Find Health Pause and tap it
- Select the scoring period you want to pause
- Confirm
Your Nest Leader does not need to approve it — it’s your decision. Your Nest Leader will see that you’re on a pause.
Note: Contact your challenge organizer if you need help accessing the Health Pause feature.
What Your Nest Sees
Your Nestmates will see that you’re on a Health Pause — it’s shown on the Nest card on the Home screen. The Nest Score average adjusts automatically to exclude your score for that period.
This transparency is intentional. Your Nest Leader can check in on you privately, and your Nestmates know not to expect your score on the leaderboard that week.
Resuming After a Health Pause
To resume:
- Open the Health Pause screen in Settings or Profile
- Tap Resume
From that point, your workouts count toward scoring again. If you resume mid-week, any workouts you’ve logged since the period started are not retroactively scored — scoring resumes from when you tap Resume.
Effect on Your Level
A Health Pause week is a neutral week for levelling purposes. You won’t be promoted (no EP scored), but you also won’t be demoted for scoring below 50% — the pause protects you from the demotion threshold.
Common Questions
Can my Nest Leader request a Health Pause on my behalf? No — only you can request your own Health Pause. Your Nest Leader can tell you about it and encourage you to use it, but the request must come from you in the app.
Does a Health Pause affect my overall challenge ranking? Yes — a paused week contributes 0% to your cumulative challenge score. Your overall ranking will be lower than if you’d had an active week, but it’s better than dragging your Nest Score down with a very low active score.
Can I take multiple Health Pauses in one challenge? Typically one Health Pause per challenge, but this may vary by challenge configuration. Check with your challenge organizer.
I’m back from injury and want to ease back in. Can I partially participate during a Health Pause? If you resume the Health Pause, all workouts from that point count. You can’t be “half paused” — it’s either on or off. If you want to do light activity and have it count, resume the pause and let the system score what you do.
I forgot to activate a Health Pause before the week ended. Can it be applied retroactively? Contact your challenge organizer or NestEgg support — retroactive Health Pause applications are handled case by case: support@nestegghealth.com
