My Wearable Won't Connect
Can't get your wearable syncing with NestEgg? Work through this checklist to get connected.
How wearable connection works
NestEgg doesn’t connect directly to most wearables. Instead, it reads workout data from your phone’s health platform:
Your wearable → Wearable app → Apple Health / Health Connect → NestEgg
So “connecting your wearable to NestEgg” really means making sure three links in this chain are working.
Link 1: Wearable → Wearable app
Your wearable device must be paired and syncing with its companion app on your phone.
Check: Open your wearable’s app (Garmin Connect, Fitbit, WHOOP, Polar Flow, etc.). Does it show your most recent data? Can you see today’s heart rate?
If not:
- Make sure Bluetooth is on
- Open the wearable app and pull down to force a sync
- Check that your device firmware is up to date
- If the device isn’t paired at all, follow the manufacturer’s pairing instructions
Link 2: Wearable app → Health platform
Your wearable’s app needs permission to write workout and heart rate data to Apple Health (iOS) or Google Health Connect (Android).
On iPhone:
- Open the wearable’s companion app (e.g., Garmin Connect)
- Find its Settings → Apple Health (or Health) section
- Make sure Workouts and Heart Rate sharing is enabled
On Android:
- Open the wearable’s companion app
- Find its Settings → Health Connect section
- Grant write permissions for workouts and heart rate
Fitbit users: Fitbit connects directly to NestEgg via OAuth — it doesn’t go through Apple Health or Health Connect. Go to NestEgg Settings → Wearable Settings → Fitbit and follow the authorization flow.
Link 3: Health platform → NestEgg
NestEgg needs read permission from Apple Health or Health Connect.
On iPhone:
- Go to Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices
- Find NestEgg
- Make sure all data categories are enabled (especially Workouts and Heart Rate)
On Android:
- Go to Settings → Apps → Health Connect → App Permissions
- Find NestEgg
- Enable read access for workouts and heart rate
The test workout
The fastest way to confirm everything works end to end:
- Start a workout on your wearable — even 1 minute is enough
- End the workout
- Wait for it to sync through to the wearable’s app (usually 30 seconds–2 minutes)
- Wait another 2–5 minutes for it to reach NestEgg
- Open NestEgg → Workouts tab → check if it appears
If the test workout appears with HR data, the connection is verified. If it doesn’t, work through Links 1–3 above to find the break.
Device-specific notes
| Device | Known issue | Workaround |
|---|---|---|
| WHOOP | Workouts may appear as “Other” activity type | This is a known Apple Health plugin limitation. EP is still scored correctly based on HR data |
| Garmin + Oura (both on same phone) | Workouts may arrive without HR data | Disable workout sync for Oura; use only Garmin for workout data |
| Samsung (on iPhone) | Samsung Health doesn’t write to Apple Health | Use Google Health Connect on Android, or Photo-Upload on iPhone |
| Older Fitbit models | May not record HR during some activity types | Use Photo-Upload for workouts where HR isn’t captured |
Photo-Upload: the universal backup
If auto-sync isn’t working and you need to get your workouts scored now, use Photo-Upload. Take a screenshot of the workout summary from your wearable’s app (showing duration and average HR), and upload it in NestEgg.
Photo-Upload works with any wearable. It’s not a compromise — it’s a fully supported upload method that many Eggs prefer.
Still stuck?
Email support@nestegghealth.com with:
- Your phone type (iPhone or Android) and model
- Your wearable brand and model
- What you’ve tried so far
- A screenshot of your wearable app’s health permissions
Remember: wearable connection is the trickiest part of onboarding. Once it works, it works — you won’t have to think about it again. And if all else fails, Photo-Upload has you covered.
